“Jobless and hungry, 18-year-old Dao has fled the parched northeastern province of Surin to become a beggar on the crowded streets of Bangkok. Her story of economic migration is a common one in Thailand today, but Dao belongs to a special subgroup of Bangkok’s homeless population — she is an elephant.”
